I have used the Kreem kit. Make sure you put some marbles, stealies or whatever and shake that shit around to remove loose scale and rust in your tank. Then follow there directions. Was not always happy with that product because it seems like it lifted and started coming apart after one year.

I have done this to a couple tanks at our shop. I have done it because our customers have had older bikes and dont really care what they slap in their tanks as long as it runs...but in true honesty...I dont think the product lasts. I have had it turn out pretty good on all my applications..but it still scares me. I think if you have a new tank like the yaffe tank that isnt rusted yet or anything then you will be fine. otherwise, I wouldnt do it. its such a toss up. just my .02

Go with what Dynomit72 said. I take my tanks to a radiator shop and have them sealed. It's worth the money not to mess with it and the stuff they use seals really hard.

make sure you put some gas in it, to make sure the sealent does not come off before painting! i learned the hard way

guys is it necessary to to seal the tanks or just recommened?

Do it! Also, have it pressure tested. We had a tank come in and get painted that was coated and had a small pin hole leak in one of the welded seams. Had to repaint the tank a few weeks later. Not our fault, this was brought to us by a local shop "ready to paint"

We have used a gas tank sealer by Northern Radiator. When I get back to SD, I can get you their number if you are still having issues with the tank. Two years and no issues on one of our tanks for example.

Check this stuff out: http://www.kbs-coatings.com/cycle-tank-sealer-plus-kit.html. Talked to the guy who sounded like he knew what he was talking about. I couldn't find anyone to do my tank because it already had sealant in it before. His stuff will remove the old and add the new in this kit. He also just has the sealant too, but any good radiator shop should be able to at least seal it for you.

well shops in area are limited...i ordered a sealant kit sold by caswell plating...see how it works....i know the prep is what will make or break the project....yaffe told me they nickel plate all there builds at the shop he also said some use some stuff from harley...called it a primer.... or they said kreem...and ive heard alot of negatives about kreem

Ughhh, I sealed my tank back in 2002 when I first built it. Worked fine with the Kreem kit till last year when I redid. My problem was I had my tank soda blasted and the heat from the blaster inexperience made the sealant "sloth" off. I didnt know it until I finished painting the tank (had it taped up the whole time). I heard that all these sealants were bad for paint if they got on them, so I opted to spend 2 days with drywall screws and rubbing alcohol swishing it around and peeling the Kreem off in giant sheets... I hated my life at that point. I would say I ended up getting 95% of it out, and I added a line filter to catch the rest. I ended up not resealing it and run dry gas to store it in the winter and keep it full during the summer. They say that you dont need to seal it, just need to keep the rust from forming from any water that gets in the tank. Time will tell for me!

PS, tank was one of those Custom Chrome tanks, great welds, so no weld leakage...

How did the application of the Caswell kit turn out for you? Did you use their Epoxy Tank Sealer kit? I've given up on locating a company locally that will nickel plate my tank and am considering the Caswell epoxy kit.

What is the L-shaped valve that comes in the hardware packet? I assume it's something to do with the fuel valve can I just use my whole existing set up from my old tank
