Some questions on project

I have done some research and asked around forums, local shops etc. I really like the 23'' DNA fat 50. Can I run this wheel without raking it and not have any concerns? I know raking it would be better obviously, but I dont have that kind of coin. I have seen pictures and asked around etc. But this site seems to have the pros and the guys who have done it. Seems to get better results for the project I want than HDForums.

Also, to rake it or add just trees what is the average labor cost from a shop? I saw native custom baggers post about their tree kit which saves from cutting. If I can possibly get their kit for the $1,xxx price tag and labor wouldnt be too bad I can possibly do a 26'' in the future.

One more question. I have stretched bags, fenders and side covers now. I got them off ebay for a price I couldnt turn down. Needed a little sanding and minor work but all in all it fit well. But now Im thinking of just getting Bad Dad etc type bags. Has anyone ran another companies bags and another companies side covers without any fitment, rubbing issue? Bad dad doesnt have side covers on their site.

Thanks guys. Lots of sweet baggers here.

Waiting of my VA disability claim to come through with a nice back pay hopefully. That is when I will probably do the front rim set up and apes.

I'll try and answer some of these questions, hopefully some others with more input can chime in...

-I built this site after struggling myself to find information about Custom Baggers. Don't worry about asking newbie questions, that is why the site is here... Also, many of our users are just like you and just getting into the Custom Bagger scene.

To run a 23" you have three basic options "DO NOT DO IT WITHOUT SOME TYPE OF MODIFICATION TO THE TREES!!!"

-Harley 7* Trike trees, lots have done it but not what I would do. Least expensive and 100% bolt on.

-Raked trees "like the ones Native sells" specifically designed for a 23" wheel without having to cut the neck. All bolt on, second least expensive in the end.

-7* rake in the neck and 7* trees like the HHI kit. This will require some body work and welding. Most expensive, but not by much.

As for the labor costs, most shops will disassemble, rake, body work, and reassemble "including neck and trees" for under $3000.00. You would still have the cost of the wheel, tire, rotors, fender, and either a raked fairing or angled head light nacelle.

To do a 26" wheel you have two options:

-Trees only "like what Native has."

Or

-9* neck and 9* trees, like the HHI kit.

All that being said... If you want a 26" do that, the cost difference between a 23" and a 26" is marginal. There really isn't much difference in the end.

If you or a helpful friend are mechanically inclined doing most of it yourself will save you some cash and you'll feel very rewarded when your done.

This is all my opinion, I am not the raked Bagger guru or anything...

As for mixing and matching parts, people do it all the time... There are also many Vendors on this site that sell/manufacture ALL of the parts you are looking for. BadDad makes some nice stuff, but they definately not the only show in town.

I will have Top Shop bags "from Native", Native front fender, Yafee rear fender, and Camtech fairing, lids, side covers, and tank overlay...

P.S. This was a helluva lot to type on a phone...

Thanks Webmaster.

I want a 23'' and have heard it can be done. Did I get a review from the actual owner? No. So who knows how it rides.

I could just do a 21'' and call it a day but seems like the 21''s are looking small. I may have to find a bike locally with a 21'' and take a look at it. My buddy is SC has a 21'' and loves it.

I should get a good back pay but want to pay off bills and save too. Wife would be pissed if I blew like $7Gs just for a rim set up.

I will say it again DO NOT mount a 23" without some type of added rake... You'll smash your fender, the front will be incredibly higher than the rear, and it will drive like shiat!!!

Save your money for a rake and stretch. I don't think you would be happy in the end if you didn't.

Looks like I will be able to do some stuff to the bike now. Crashed today. Not totaled or anything crazy. Just a bent and damaged front fender, fairing, dash popped out, broke forwards, shift rod, damaged stretched bags, lids, fender etc. So waiting on adjuster and hopefully do well.

Lots of road rash, pain and swolleness.

WTF man!!! You did not have to do all that just to justify the customization!!!

Hope your not feeling too bad! Heal up soon!

need some advice on paint. bike will need to be painted regardless so maybe if i do well i can get a custom paint.

i like

Orange
Candy style red
or a lime green color. not to bright/flashy
white

paint will be the color with black contrast parts

wanting to do(if i do well and my buddys shop is doing estimate)

Either fix and re do bags or go with baddad bags and fender
sinister side covers
16'' apes
either DNA or ride wright spoke wheels? FL or wrap fender?
floorboards? need some nice floorboards, shifter peg, brake, shift rod etc I have forwards and they are about $800-$1000 and I can save some coin i think going with floorboards.
primary cover will be stock obviously. That was damaged.
saddlebag latch face plate. need a nice set

can anyone post pics of those colors I asked for and the actual paint name?

thanks guys. shop is going to do a motor test and check all that too and make sure motor is still good and the shifter didnt do any damage to tranny when is slammed onto the ground

Why not try and use Vendors from this site???

All the parts you mentioned are available through our Vendors.

Nothing against BadDad or Sinister but they are not the ones keeping this place going...

can you point me in the right direction for the vendors? or maybe tell me where to post so I can get some quotes and not have to email/PM a lot of companies. In a sling and in pain.

thanks man. Im all about helping site out if they can give me a good deal and have what I need in stock. i like the spoke wheels over contrast though

Here is a list of all the Extreme Vendors and Vendors:

All the Extreme Vendor's have their own forum at the top of the page and the Vendor's have for sale ads in the Vendor's Marketplace. You can also search their screen name for posts and find many examples of their work.

My advice would be read, read, read, and read... There are so many great pics on this site it would be impossible for me to point you to all of them.

Thanks webmaster. I just got a PM from a vendor for DNA wheel!! Ill have to contact them. Im on sinisters site now and looking at bags, fender and pimp liners. this all depends on what I get back for damage. the sinister rear fenders are more than baddad and dont include a taillight. but well see how it goes. Cross fingers so I can join the ranks of you guys with the bad ass baggers.

If i can save my bags I have now and do work and painting etc on them it might save money for other things. I just have to see what the cost will be. either fix or replace. not sure what will be cheaper.

bike is on its way to HD tomorrow. Estimate will be done Friday. Anyone have experience or know anyone that had their bike estimated by HD and what they check and claim etc?

I went by today and was pleased with the service guy so Im having it towed from the shop I was going to go with to the dealer. I have one damaged bag and lid and the service guy asked if i knew what brand or part number. I dont so he said ok well if we cant find it then I can just order you these bags in the catalog. They are true 4'' bags non cvo style with lids and hardware. so hopefully he can do that. Not sure how he will appraise the stretched fender. Might get lucky and be able to order a custom one. Forwards are shot and you have to buy as a pair and they are $800-$1000 so maybe i can get that estimated for that much and just go with nice HD floorboards etc.

Well see. Ill keep you guys posted. Im nervous and hope all goes well.
