So is it wood you use to make the shape, and then fiberglass over that? I really would like to learn how to do stuff like this.

come over i will show you!

yes balsa wood ( shapes easy) and fiberglass. the rings are cut out of mdf. the process is easy to do . the hard part is coming up with something that doesnt look like a total abortion. i try not to use to much body filler in making the basic shade ( if part is going to be used) . if i am making a plug for a mold it doesnt matter how much body filler is used. its not going to be a part in use. these parts im putting on my bike so most of the shape was fabricated and glass together. i will post update pics as i go.

One of THE 150!
Those are going to be nice and different, can't wait to see what they're going to look like when they are done. Any idea of what the price range will be?

finally got the second side done. its so easy to freehand the first one. the problem comes when you have to make the opposite side. templates definitely are a must! there is still some tuning to do to both sides befor the molds are made. just thought i would show some progress
