Ohlins shocks

Just wanted to see if anyone else has a set of Ohlins shocks on their bike.

After going through the stock shocks (garbage), a set of Prgressive 440's (total crap, basically a spring that you can stiffen up) I got tired of trying to save & went with a set of Ohlins.

Holy shit they're awesome! No more slamming from bottoming out. They ride very very nice. A little stiff at first but as they break-in they become more plush. Of course everyone's idea of how a suspension "should" feel is different but, I think most will be very happy with them.
Also, cost is relative. To me they weren't a lot of money for what I got as compared to other shocks brands. In fact I think they were very reasonable for how good they are. I have the #3 #3. The website has the information on what those numbers mean (motorcyclemetal.com). If you call ask for Howard (he'll probably answer anyway).

Oh, if you're looking to set 'em & forget 'em...forget it. You'll need to setup your sag, break 'em in (500 miles) set the sag again, ride another 350-500 miles then reset the sag & you should be good to go. Seeing how most guys on this site like to work on their own bikes, you'll love it. IMO these shocks are the real deal.

I feel air suspension serves its purpose but makes the ass end feel sloppy...im gonna do progressive 940's or ohlins.....ive heard nothing bad about the 940's.......ohlins just speak for themselves.....

I was thinking the 940's or new 944's myself. But ohlins is a great shock without question. Ran on a lot of sportbikes

Why did you go this route rather than air ride?

Hey Josh, sorry, I never saw your question. I hated the ride of the stock air when I hit any sort of sharp bump. They bottomed out real bad (i'm sure you know). I haven't really heard anything good about ride quality from anyone that has any air ride. They all say it's better than stock & I can't get anyone to give me a valid opinion on the ride compared to conventional shocks. i didn't want to spend $800+ on air ride again.

Now that I've been here & have seen the "homemade air ride" thread i'm going to give it a try. $200 isn't too much $ to try it out.

I agree with you on the air ride & the Ohlins. A lot of guys say that the 940's feel much better with a passenger.

Stone, 99% of what I read about the 940's is that they are pretty stiff & offer little adjustment. That's just what I read. I don't have any experience with them. They also cost just about the same (more if you end up not liking them lol) as a good set of Ohlins.
