Mileage on a 26"

As I get real close to pull the trigger on a 26" pm wheel, what is the mileage people are getting, is it rideable, a daily rider? This may stir the pot a bit, but really with all the leaky Vee Rubber threads and everything, can a bike with a 26" be a rider. Can you go to Sturgis on it, can you go to Daytona Bike week. How is the overall rideability, and I don't mean it "handles fine", I mean can you hop on it and ride.

I would like to know this also, and can I ride 100 mph regularly in distance ? I'm saving to do it next year.

I remember Slothy had a post over at HDF about the mileage he is seeing out of his 26". Don't want to quote numbers out of my ass, but it was pretty respectable iirc. Hopefully he will see this.

I also saw he posted pics of a road trip he took on his bike. Something like 3000 miles roundtrip and not a problem. Looks like if the 26 is set up right, they are very rideable.

My plan is to have Dyna Beads put in at first, and if it leaks the Dyna Beads will come out and Slime will go in.

The Slime will actually work as somewhat of a balancer similar to the Dyna Beads "or air soft pellets."

The way I see it I usually replace fronts for cupping long before there is an issue with tread wear so I am not too worried about the balance being perfect. Slothy has about 12K on his 26" if I remember right, says there is plenty of tread but the are cupped.

Slothy would be the guy to ask. When he built his he took a long trip. Don't know exactly but probably over a 2000 miles.

You can do anything on 26 you would do on your stock 18's. You will probably have to add air to the tire but thats it. The 26 handles awesome I honestly think it rides and tracts better than a stock bike. You may feel some small holes a little more because there is less rubber. I had 3,500 or 4 thousand miles on mine before I went to my 30 with no issue's but my face hurting from smiling. 100 mph no problem when a group of your buddys get together we all known you dont go slow I have had mine over 120 with my wife on the back with no issues and if there was we would have been dead anyways. So to me rideability is awesome. If you dont have a leaky tire you can absolutley hop on it and ride it any day of the week. Slothy should be a spokes person for the 26 with how many miles he has.

with all these speakers in my bag i dont get very far bahahah

geoff - your rear tire will need changing before the front.i put on a little over 11k last year on it and lots of tread left, but mines starting to cup.

and for those who missed it...about 5900 miles round trip - Michigan to Newfoundland and back.

Cool, Mr. Money bags, order your son up a 26". On a serious note, how fast have you had your bike, how is it in the curves. I have seen the pics from deals gap, but give me your opinion compared to stock.

Geoff just get on that bagger and beat the balls off it like your riding your turbo v-rod. Trust me, they are fine. I had mine up over the speed limit a couple times. I'm still the jerk who leaves every stop light, bike show or gas station sideways with a smoke show and a black strip. just look even funnier with a 26" bagger doing it.

I say you need to put that 26 to another test. These Alaska roads are callin for 26. They told me so. And we have some pretty nice hotels instead of tents.

I guess before I pull the trigger here are my thoughts, Tucson Roads suck, I am so anal retentive that if my front tire leaks I will lose sleep. I have not problem riding something that is not that comfortable, hell I have 40 K plus on my v rod, and Roger, I never do anything stupid on it.

That is my biggest concern. Is it rideable, when the weather is 75 and I wanna take my 25 mile ride to work, can I hop on it and go. How are speed bumps? Am I going to be dragging fender? Arizona has what we call wedge curb on almost every home, picture a triangle instead of a vertical face. Am I doing to be dragging? How is the overall ground clearance compared to stock?

A wrap fender won't scrub the speed bumps but you'll have to be careful with any of the FL style front fenders.

Think your clearance is close to what it was with stock? I think we are running the same setup in the rear.

im going to say its a tad lower - id measure but bike is just frame and motor right now. i usally ride with the rear about 60-75% full height
