Front fender mock up question

I just received my Yaffe 23 FL fender today. My wheel is still 3 weeks out and my bike will be going under the knife in 2-3 weeks.

My question. Is it wise to paint the front fender prior to mocking for drilling the holes for proper placement? I'd like to have it done before the bike is raked, and not have to wait another 7-10 days for my paint. But if it's safer, I guess I'll wait.

i would wait till the wheel gets in so you get the right amount of space between the tire and fender. it always sucks having to drill in fresh paint! you never know if its gonna chip up. just my 2cents.

I would wait too. I was stressing out trying to get my freshly painted fender on without scratching it and wouldn't even think about doing a mock up with it.

Yeah, I guess I could mount the fender. Ride home, take it off and get it painted. I just wanted to get all my paint done at once.

Wait until after to get everything to drill the fender. That way you can set the gap between your tire and the fender once. Also rake your front end first as this may change the way that the fender looks when mounted.

I guess to be clear, the fender wasn't gonna be drilled until after the rake was done. But I think I'll go the safer route and avoid any possible scratches anyway. Just a little inconvenience.
