Best price on apes

Hey guys First off I have searched and read all the ape hanger threads I could find everywhere and got a lot of good info. I am just wondering how much cash people have invested into there kits. I found a site that has a complete kit for $480 but was wanting to know if someones done it cheaper. I dont want to compromise and not be safe but I also would like to do this as low of a cost as possible and throw the extra cash at paying the bike off. I'm thinking I want to do 16" apes, they dont have to be very fancy. Even know I really like this sites 1 1/4 open apes http://www.brcustomcycles.com/Ape_Hangers.php and there $275 but like I said I think i'd rather spend less and can get some standard apes for under $200. This is all for my 2008 electra glide. I'll also be needing all the wiring. If you guys could list what you spent on the total converstion it would be great.

I used to own some shit!
The wiring can be had for under $20 on ebay, just cut yours in half and splice in the extension in the middle "solder and heat shrink". Doing it this way means you won't need any pins or connectors.

The cables can really add up depending on what you do, it's up to you how much you spend.

The bars are only a piece of the puzzle, you still have to consider the riser clamp, wiring, bushings, cables, hoses, and controls if your changing them.

Well I think im going to do 1 1/4 and the bottom of the bars will be 1" so the stock bar clamp will work and i'm going to use the stock controls. Ill need clutch cable, brake cable, wiring, and bars. Thats why i'm thinking about just getting the HCC kit seems like the best price.

The stock clamp will work, but if it is a 2 piece clamp you are going to want to replace it as your apes can crack through the middle with the two piece.

So then it would be the same on my 2008 electra glide? I know this is dumb but I dont know for sure if i have abs. There is a wire that follows the left side brake line and it has a hole in the fender it goes in. I think that means I have abs, I cant tell were it goes after it goes in the fender. Also I heard a light comes on, on the dash I saw one light on It was green but I dont know what the symbol means. This is my first road bike so im fresh haha. But I like the sounds of not extending all the throttle by wire. So if I can do it this way all I need is bars a +8 clutch and +8 abs brake cable. Where did you get your cables? Thanks for the help.

Don't skimp on cables. A lot of those cheap kits come with low quality cables. They can change color, yellow, ect. Magnum cables are the way to go.

Everything i'v read points me to I dont have abs. So i guess its going to cost a little more than the abs bikes.

Yeah ,brake lines are a lil more you may have $250 in it. Look for an Indy shop. The ones around here sell drag and custom chrome for 10 to 20% over cost. Hell of alot less than a dealer

It would suck to get everything up here then find out the wires wont reach haha. I'd have to wait atleast two more weeks to get the wires. Anyone else put apes on there bikes?

You could learn how to solder and extend them yourself. It is pretty easy and you might like it. That is if you need to.

I think i might just buy some 14 wild1's and clutch and brakes long enough for 16's just in case the 14's arnt tall enough. I'm 6'2 but I dont want my hands that far over the fairing and think the 14's will be nice

at 6'2" you may want to go 16" , yaffe has some economy apes and supersize kits that are reasonably priced
