i would recomend doing a remanufactured one through the dealer. it is 2200 dollars. and 2 weeks later you have a brand new motor out of the factory and with a warrenty. and you can do it your self . take motor out complete and take to local dealer . they will ship it out for you and thats about it .

That is a pretty good option. Most used seem to run around $1500 give or take so not much different. Let me guess....the case cracked??

244,000 miles has pulled the studs through the cases several times and it is just time for new cases not just a rebuild
he is a constant rider and rides everyday even in the snow , he needs a new motor before March as we will be riding from AZ to Texas for our national meeting

yupe thats a common problem with the evo motor from i believe pre 1997 the cases are just too thin. I got almost a 100 thousand on mine. no probblem with that . but i did have a bent pinion shaft. which could have been a whole new motor. but found a cheap fix. 4 or 500 bucks including the gaskets and true and balance fly wheels. then i added 1000 bills in performance parts. those years only had a 3 piece flywheel assemblywhich was unrepairable. a shop in iowa can fix that problem. 100 bucks plus pinion shaft for 100 bucks..
Sorry got off the topic a bit. lol

Thats what I thought too.....mine is a 98 with 60k on it and the case just cracked this last summer. I think it is a crap shoot with these evos. For the money right now i cant find anything better than the ultima el bruto 124" touring engine. all brand new comes complete with carb and ignition shipped to your door for $3600. Still a lot of money but other options add up quick.

thats a good priceon the motor. FYI I had my stock heads sns ported at revaloution performance for around $850 bucks. Also baught there cyclnders and piston kit that turns it from an 80 inch to a 85 inch no case boring needed.for around a grand or there abouts. they have some really good quality product. they even installed the bigger valves in the heads aswell. Highley recomend there product. good luck to ya.
