23" and 26" tires, whats available?

I live near Chicago, home of car swallowing pot holes. I'd like to move up to a 23 or 26, but still want some rubber between my expensive wheel and the road. Can anyone post pics of the different tire options for 23 and 26 wheels? I'd like to see just how much rubber is there. The pot holes here are so bad in the spring, its almost dangerous to ride a bike until summer hits and they have filled them all.

Your options are pretty slim. Avon makes a 23" and that's what I have on my bike, but when you go to the 26 & 30, I think V-Rubbers is it. I've hit some pretty bad pots with my 21" & the 23", but suffered no ill efects.

well there is less rubber (lower profile) on the 26" + tires, but since they are much larger dia - they tend to steam roll over shit alot better then a smaller dia tire.

I would agree with Slothy's logic. Same reason anybody serious about Mountain Biking right now is running 29" wheels.

An extreme comparison would be a quarter rolling over a pencil compared to a hool-a-hoop.

I am also building a Niner frame with a set of Sun-ringle charger 29" wheels...

I ride a titus 29er. The logic makes sense, but the crap quality of the tire does not.
