what do you use? i use different in each so i can easily track a leak, Rdline in my primary ,royal purple in my trans, reg oil in the motor..

We use Mobile 1 full syn. 15/50 or 20/50 for oil Or Mystick 15/50 or 20/50 semi syn

Trans we use Mystick 80/90 gear lube or Valvoline 80/90 gear lube.

Primary we use Castrol 20/50 motorcycle oil wet clutch. We do no use syn in primary could make clutch slip.

It seems most people don't know much about what they put in their bike anyway. They just use it cause someone told them to or it is popular. Kinda like everything else;)

AmsOil 20/50 Full Syn. In all 3 Holes and I change it every 4k they say your supposed to be able to double your oil life will the AmsOil full syn but I don't trust that in my bikes. I ran Redline 20/60 for awhile (Was supposed to be specially designed for Harleys) but It made my bike run a little on the hot side so I went back to AmsOil, good cooling and my motors have stayed clean. AmsOil full syn. has Lasted me through 3 Harleys and into my Current Road King #4 One of them was a high HP Buell motor in a Sportster Frame. Never had problems. Even worked ell with my Evo Wide Glide with Cork Gaskets.

Agreed.
No matter the brand, no engine oil in trans and vice versa.
I only wave if waved to! LOL

My only question for this is, why does the type oil matter so much in a Harley?

I use royal purple in everything I own... Samething in my trucks, cars, bikes, and all the other gas things I have? My diesels, I run delo400..

My truck oil change schedule is 10,000 miles, it's twin turbo?

Viscosity is most important IMO. oil pressure is determined partly by this factor.
