By the time I put a fairing on and do new switch housings, wiring, blah, blah- it would cost me $6000. Easy. I'm not trying to be a pessimist, but I haven't spared an expense anywhere on the bike (other than a solid rear wheel, and I am still kicking myself for that ), so doing a "budget fairing" is out of the question. In MY mind, I have created the best RK I am possible of creating. I just hoped somebody would see it for that and want the bike as a RK. I could do a Glide and still enjoy it knowing I had the chance to sell it for a small loss later and build another bike. When I said I had 51k in the bike, I'm not adding all of the BS o-rings, quarts of oil, HD bolt kits, etc. I dropped a ton of bread in this thing (which I do not regret), but I need to stop now before it gets worse. EX: I bought 3 sets of bags to get the right ones. You have no way of knowing until you put your eyes on them. People are scared to call a spade on the forums because of the advertising $ I guess. I bought a $800 tank and spent 12 hours ($85 hr) getting it good enough to paint! That being said- it looks gooood (IMO). But so much of this stuff out there is junk, and I don't want to start junking up the bike now. I put much thought into the direction of this bike and I defiantly didn't buy a "starter kit" from some parts stamper. It just gets frustrating seeing the "custom bike world" turn into the import stick on plastic crap scene... Sorry for the rant.
